In class on 1-29-08, I had many different personal reactions to the videos shown. Some videos I really appreciated others I found to have no interest in and annoyance. The first video was Camilleu ABC silhouette, I found something about the performance of the letters falling very hypnotic. The fact that the letters actually are words from poems makes it that much more intriguing. I love how its a performance, a video, and uses new media to create the falling of letters. Joan Jonas and Tony Oursler's videos weren't intriguing to me. I found them both irritating and outdated, I believe its the outdated films that I have a hard time finding an inspiration in.
Robin Red Breast performance was one of my favorites. It reminded me of how as children we imitate animals. She imitated the robin and its mating ritual so well I could see the bird on the front yard run and ever so slightly turn its head. The Yes Man's political video was confusing for me, I had never heard of "The Yes Man" and not knowing of the misfortune that had happened I was lost. After it was explained I felt a great deal of gratitude for them to pull such a stunt on BBC. More stunts like this should be happening. They aren't harm-full they are helpful.
Christian Jankowski's Karaoke video was a little on the cheesy side, it reminded me of a bad day time soap. Adrianne Wortzel, new media video of the Dr. & Patient Robot was confusing and dragged out. Christy Georg's cork glass and water noise video thing, was interesting but could have been more so if i had gone to see it at a museum as an installation piece. David Webber's was my third favorite, using kitchen devices as a way of imitating Soap voices was humorous and creative, I really enjoyed this piece.
