Chpt VI

Daniel Pinks learning to make his self portrait is nothing short of amusing! When summing up this chapter I find myself thinking back to portraits my parents kept from my youth. It is very similar to his first self portrait when he was using "hieroglyphics" not "drawing" there is a freedom and comfort that needs to be opened in order to try and draw... that is why in drawing classes they do silly exercises to get your brain thinking and eyes seeing and most of the intimidation of white paper to dissipate! Its almost tempting to try it in both prospectives, just to see if I do both... hmm, maybe ill do that...

Carpenter Museum

"Two Or Three Things I Know About  Her"

This exhibit was very different from what I had imagined. Moyra Davey, "Fifty Minutes", is a series of vignettes where she speaks a monologue about nostalgia and psychoanalysis. She incorporates photography and reading also into her work. The main theme of the "Fifty Minutes" film is traveling to her therapist in the Upper East Side of New York. This is preceding the tragic "911" which she makes connections too. As well, she quotes from "Reading in an Age of Uncertainty, by Vivian Gornick the article talks of post war conditions.

My favorite vignette is called "The Fridge", the monologue begin read is hilarious! She talks about 911 and a black out that happened during the summer. Moyra while talking comes to the realization she is deeply connected to her fridge. Her complaints of her husband over cooking and putting tons of left overs away. Moyra's aggravation towards her child for leaving the fridge open for to long. The list concludes her pacing in front of the fridge almost in the matter of proclaiming its hers and not to step the boundaries.

At the Fog museum I got even more intrigued by her work. She is a photographer, the photo exhibit held shows her art pieces within the past tens years. The pieces vary from records staked, books, even copper pennies.

The "Copper Heads", gives you a lot to think about. On the on going theme within her work of psychoanalysis coincides by showing you the viewer that we take for granted simple things in life. The amazing colors and dissipating Lincoln are beautifully blown up in a grid like order. I will never forget my sister walking down the street saying, "America is the only country that would not pick up change, never mind leave it to fall". The penny is practically worthless as the dollar bill has lost value of what it used to be. This saddening economic downfall is what i feel Moyra is trying to show. Overall I really enjoyed her outlook through her work.

Chpt 5

I have a bad short term memory , unless its a story. Im kinda notorious for telling stories about memories and things  i learned about forever ago.
"Myth is the secret opening through which the inexhaustible energies of the cosmos pour into human manifestation"- Joseph Campbell.
There is a certain rhyme  and rhythm to telling stories and i agree with this chpt.. It was the first form of history. The scamming post card story, i get this all the time via email or mail. Credit card stories even RED products from gap that donate to Darfur in Africa and when reading the label it was made in some foreign poor country on its outskirts. Stories are ment to be read into.

New media artist~

I enjoyed Meredith and Gina's presentation on Sam Easterston, The one thing about the presentation was the web site! I loved its simple outlay! I felt like Sam would have enjoyed it as well. I felt a little dissapointed that i didn't get to see the Chick video cause it looked that cutest and that is what attracted them to him to begin with. I love the controversial conversation it provoked during class as well.

Chpt Four

Sorry for the following I am typing with a migraine.

For what I could handle reading, i enjoyed. I actually have been into furninture design for a few years now. I have so many interesting ideas! NEW ideas! It started when I built a project in form study. It opened my narrow perspectives of what i thought art was at the time.
I ended up working with wood and nails and it was ridiculously fun! I felt it was a self sculpture portait thing.

I love desgin complany's and escpecilly West Elm....
MY MIGRAINE is killing me.

Okay basically i want my own design company or be part of one. I love the encouragement this "design" chpt 4 gave to me.

Scott Snibbe

Scott Snibbe... He has a really cool out look on his art work. He is into practicing the faith of Buddhism. Within this he uses it to connect the viewer into the mysterious cyber world. Most of all his pieces are interactive in one of his first large scale pieces is my personal favorite where their is a screen you blow on to interact with the larger piece.

He is very well accomplished he taught at both RISD AND Brown. There is a lot of interesting stuff on him and you can read about it on www.sweet-adieu.net/aspect/ >>>>> Which was generously created by Kira
